Time to upgrade the family home
The economy is improving and interest rates are still low, despite some upwards movement and Jandson Homes is recommending upgrading the family home.
“For some families upgrading the family home will mean a home with more bedrooms and entertaining space for a growing family. But for others it will mean building a smaller home more in keeping with a shrinking family because the children have left home.

“It’s a very good time to look for a new home because we are expecting building products’ prices to increase in 2010 and the demand for land and homes is likely to escalate as consumer confidence recovers.

For these projects it certainly makes a lot of sense to make the move now as prices for old homes in desirable areas will be likely to increase as the real estate market continues to improve.
“With rental accommodation in strong demand it is also a good time to invest in a rental property. A vast majority of property investors are small investors with just one investment property, other than the family home.
“It is a good way to build personal wealth rather than relying on a volatile share market and there are the advantages of negative gearing. A brand new home is a good way to go to avoid the cost of renovating simply to make the property ready for renting,” added Terry.
“The family home is still a great investment as it provides the lifestyle and comfort you want as well as the security of owning your own home. There is no capital gains tax and it is a great benefit to have a debt free home in your retirement years,” he concluded.
